Whitney Consulting’s funding specialists have a unique personality. While I won’t go as far as suggesting that all my colleagues are boring introverts (like me), I’ll fill you in on a few things that we all love:
- the 15 second commute to work (from the bedroom to the office)
- wearing our standard issue team uniform – purple ugg boots!
- cancelled plans (so we can keep our ugg boots on)
- Research!
- not being interrupted during the working day (so that we can get on with said research)
Led by our Captain, Tara Whitney – who had all her wedding day plans mapped out on a spreadsheet 12 months before her big day – we are also all ultra organised. And thorough. Two qualities that, while kind of boring, are essential for grant writers. You see, to win grant funding, there are a few mundane, but essential things that need to be done.
- Submit the application on time. It doesn’t matter how whizz bang your idea is, if you don’t get the application submitted on time, there is NO CHANCE your project will be funded.
- Follow the guidelines! These are typically LONG (and boring) documents with a lot of detail that would be pretty easy to skip over if you were distracted or pressed for time. Again, if you don’t follow the guidelines, it doesn’t matter how amazing your idea is – it won’t get funded!
- Answer ALL the questions. This is time consuming and can be tedious, especially when some of the questions seem to be quite repetitive.
- Research, supported by quotes and/or data to highlight why your project is needed and should be funded. As highlighted above, we at Whitney Consulting LOVE research!
Too often people underestimate the time and effort that goes into the creation of a quality grant application and end up missing these crucial elements in the mad rush to get it done. Consequently, some great ideas never get off the ground.
We at Whitney Consulting thrive on sitting in a quiet space and turning your ideas into thorough and reliable applications that give you the best chance of funding success. To date, we have won over $350 million for our clients. So, if you have a vision, but limited time, consider hiring Whitney Consulting to help bring your vision to life!
